The Burton company, in an effort to add value to its $400 snowboards — which could be dirt cheap, my idea of winter sports is sitting by a fireplace and drinking something hot until the spring thaw — has licensed four Playboy Playmate pictures to put on its new "Love" line.
The pictures have been cropped to fit the boards and clothing has been added, as you'll notice in the side-by-side comparison of Teri Peterson's June 1980 centerfold and her representation on board 163, which I have painstakingly culled from the appropriate websites and put here for your inspection. (Presumably the colors on the boards will be more intense than on the website.) The Burton people managed to find some of the hottest Playmates, too, including one of my personal favorites, Sandy Johnson, Miss June 1974, who posed in a baseball batting cage seemingly unaware that her uniform had disappeared.
An intrepid newsperson in Burton's home town of Burlington, Vt., went out and waved these pictures of mostly-naked women on snowboards at people on the street, and some people were outraged, see for yourself here.
This will probably raise the profile of the Love boards, which are described as limited editions — the footage was picked up by CNN — so if you have any interest in getting a snowboard with a Playmate on it you should go to wherever they sell them and buy one at once.
